R.D. - ref: 8c/4, the son of George & Mary Ellen
Lythgoe (nee Radford).

1939 National Registration - 7 Old Lane, Wigan,
Lancashire.   Fred Lythgoe - Married - Born on the
8th October 1911 occ: Full time A.F.S. Officer
with Standish UDC, previously a Carter.   Ann
Lythgoe - Married - Born on the 4th October 1918 -
occ: Cotton Weaver.

Death registered during the December quarter 1942
in the Wigan R.D. - ref: 8c/21 - aged: 31.

Liverpool Evening Express dated the 2nd December
1942 - Fred Lythgoe, aged: 32, of Old Lane,
Shevington, near Wigan died yesterday whilst using
an electric drilling machine.

CWGC - Fireman, N.F.S. Son of George Robert and
Mary Ellen Lythgoe, of 61 Preston Road, Standish;
husband of Ann Lythgoe, of 7 Old Lane, Shevington.
Injured at Clayton Street; died same day at Royal
Albert Edward Infirmary.

Electrocuted in the NFS Workshops at Clayton
Street, Wigan.

It seems alien nowadays that this should happen,
but at that time the country operated a Direct
Current system, whereas from about 1948, we
adopted the safer Alternating Current system of
supply.
