Born during the March quarter 1914 in the
Brentford R.D. - ref: 3a/311, the daughter of
Percy Alfred and Julia Grinyer (nee Curd).

H.E. Bombs fell on both the Manchester Royal
Infirmary and on the south wing of the Manchester
Royal Eye Hospital.  Two staff were killed at the
Eye Hospital - Dr. Grinyer and Nurse Mabel Holt. 
Hospital beds were endowed in memory of them.

Her obituary appeared in the 29th March 1941
edition of the British Medical Journal (p496).  
"We regret to record the death of Dr. Hilda
Beatrice Grinyer.  She studied at the London
School of Medicine for Women, taking diplomas of
M.R.C.S. and L.R.C.P in December 1938.   In
February 1940 she was appointed house surgeon at
the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, where she
worked most assiduously until her untimely
deathduring an air raid on Manchester.  It was her
custom during the "alert" periods to help in the
carrying of children down to the shelter and to
assist the patients in every way."

CWGC - M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. Daughter of Percy Alfred
and Julia Grinyer, of 36 Oakhill Road, Putney,
London. Died at Royal Eye Hospital.
