Service No. 826.     Sent down from his base at
Oldham Fire Station to assist the local firemen at
Trafford Park during the Manchester Blitz
22nd/23rd & 23rd/24th December 1940.

Died at Withington Hospital as a result of
injuries sustained at Trafford Park the same day.

Death registered in Manchester City.    Funeral
took place on 31 /12/1940.

Listed under "Identified Seriously Injured" on the
Manchester Police Air Raid Casualties lists for
the 24th December 1940.

Death reported in the ----------------- edition of
the ------------------------------- which states
that he resided at 35 St. Thomas Street, North
Oldham.   He was employed by Mr. T. Whittaker,
Jeweller, Manchester Street, Oldham and joined the
Fire Service on the 2nd July 1940.   Memorial
service prior to interment was held at St. Peter's
Church, Oldham.

His widow married Albert E. Cooper during the June
quarter 1942 in the Ashton under Lyne R.D. - ref:
8d/1584.

CWGC - Fireman, Oldham A.F.S. Son of Mrs.
Shawcross, of 24 Ashton Road, Oldham; husband of
Ada Shawcross, of 35 St. Thomas Street, North
Oldham. Injured at Trafford Park, Stretford; died
same day at Withington Hospital, Nell Lane.
