Five of the 14 nurses killed at Salford Hospital on the 2nd June 1941
were buried together at Wardley St. Mary's RC Cemetery, Salford.

Three others were buried together at the St Anne & Blessed Dominic
RC Church, St. Helens.   I am obliged to Stephen Wainwright who
kindly sent me the St. Helen's photographs to use.  Stephen owns the

The local St. Helen's Newspaper dated, 10th June 1941 reported the
incident:-

"As the remains of Ellen Sheridan, Rose Moffatt and Margaret Lowery
were laid to rest in the cemetery at St.Annes Church, many of the
hundreds of mourners were unable to contain their grief.  Pathetic
scenes were witnessed at the graveside as the three 19-year-olds’
coffins were lowered into a single grave. The trio of best pals had
gone to school together before becoming nurses at the same Manchester
hospital where they lost their lives together. So it was felt
appropriate that they should be buried together."

Elsie Okell was buried in her family grave in St. Matthew's
Churchyard, Buckley, Hawarden, Flintshire.

The burial place(s) of the remaining five nurses is not yet known.
