of the Pay Corps were killed when a Land Mine
landed on their hotel at the bottom of the High
Street (now known as Hathersage Road). The Army
Pay Corps was based at Pownalls on Stockport
Road.
Born Elsie Matilda Cox, she married Ernest Charles
Weston during the March quarter 1908 in the Dover
R.D. - ref: 2a/1557. Now a Captain in the Army
Pay Corps, he was also killed in this incident and
his body cremated at Manchester Crematorium. All
the early Crematorium records were lost, but it is
