Manufacturing Clerk. A Charles & Barbara Welsted

The 1939/40 Voters lists reveal that Charles J.
Welsted did reside at 78 Stanley Road, along with
Barbara Emily Welsted and Grace Barbara Welsted.
A Labourer, he died at Salford Royal Infirmary.
Stanley Road was bombed on the 23rd December, so
it would seem likely that he died in Salford
Infirmary of injuries sustained on the 23rd
December 1940.
Killed when a land mine landed on Stanley Road,
Old Trafford. This was the worst single incident
in terms of loss of life in the whole of Greater
Manchester during WW2. In total, thirty three
persons were killed.
The remaining family was rehoused at 30 St Hilda's
Road, adjacent to Seymour Park, Old Trafford.
Buried 02/01/1941 - Burial No. 17,911.
His wife, Eliza Emily died 10/11/1957 aged 83
years. Their gravestone confirms that he was aged
67 years.
