Thomas & Diana Alice Hill (nee Aston).

siblings, including Thomas Jnr. who was also later
to be killed in this incident.
Married William Harcourt Smith during the
September quarter 1925 in the Barton upon Irwell
R.D. ref: 8c/1445.

Nellie Smith - Married - born: 4th June 1898 -
occ: Unpaid Domestic Duties.
CWD Report No. 97. Died at 32 Stanley Road, Old
Trafford, from where her body was recoverd at
17.20 hrs on the 24th December 1940 and taken to
the Church Street Mortuary, Stretford. Her
body was released for burial to the Council's
Undertaker Contractor - R. Pepperdine, 31 Ayres
Road, Old Trafford. She residied at 6 Clifton
Street, Old Trafford - a street that also suffered
severe bomb damage and loss of life.
Her husband, her parents and her younger brother -
Thomas Hill Jnr, were all killed in this
incident.
Killed when a land mine landed on Stanley Road,
Old Trafford. This was the worst single incident
in terms of loss of life in the whole of Greater
Manchester during WW2. In total, thirty three
persons were killed.
Buried 27/12/1940 - Burial No. 17,857.
