### Manchester and Salford Hospital Saturday Fund
was founded in 1872.  In 1907 the Fund purchased
its first convalescent home, and became Manchester
and Salford Hospital Saturday and Convalescent
Homes Fund Incorporated.  The Fund was essentially
a health insurance scheme; working people were
able to obtain treatment at certain Manchester
hospitals and convalescent homes after paying a
certain level of subscription.  Most of the funds
collected were paid into the hospitals.  Donors
either paid directly to the Fund or had the sum
deducted from their wages.  The convalescent homes
were owned by the subscribers, and were not open
to non-subscribers; there was a men's home in
Llandudno, North Wales, a women's home at Arnside,
and a children's home at Bollington, Cheshire. 
The Fund merged with Healthcare Insurance Alliance
in 1999 and became HealthSure. It sold its last
remaining convalescent home in 2000.
