Moss Side. Died at 93 Higher Cambridge Street.
William was a serviceman (???) home on leave and
staying at Hetty Ellis' house (his girlfriend's
house) in Higher Cambridge Street. When the
sirens sounded, the family, comprising Hetty's
parents - Joseph and Sarah Eleanor Ellis, Hetty
and himself, went down into their cellar to
shelter. At some point, Hetty's parents decided
to go upstairs to make a cup of tea, soon after
that the H.E. bomb hit their house. Although
trapped in the rubble of their house, they
survived, but Hetty and her serviceman boyfriend
were killed. Their bodies were not recovered
until the 30th December. |
