Mark's P.C., Oldham on the 11th November 1914,
aged: 2 - born on the 11th June 1912. Son of
Hansel & Hilda Hollins of 18 Garside Street,
Oldham - father's occ: Tripe Dresser.
1939 National Registration - 97 Eric Street,
Oldham. Robert Hollins - born on the 11th June
1912 - Married - occ: Tripe Dresser. Doris

Unpaid Domestic Duties. Derek Hollins - born on
the 3rd May 1939.
Member of the 464 Battery, Searchlight Rgt of the
Royal Artillery.
Death reported in the 19th May 1943 edition of the
Worthing Gazette. It was a bright moonlet night
when Robert told a comrade (Corporal J.S. Roberts)
that he was going to pick some tulips growing
nearby to send home to his wife. He suggested
that his comrade went with him, but his corpporal
refused and warned him, "Don't tempt fate too
far". "I will be alright" Robert said and started
off. When about 100 yards away, there was a flash
and an explosion that killed him. A verdict of
misadventure was recorded.
Death registrerd during the June quarter 1943 in
the Worthing R.D. - ref: 2b/497 - aged: 31.
Probate Record - Robert Hollins of 97 Eric Street,
Oldham. died 13th May 1943 on war service.
Administration granted at Manchester on the 8th
November 1943 to Doris Hollins, widow. Estate
valued at £317. 19s. 1d.
From the way the report reads, it appears that
there must have been mines laid in front of the
S/L battery???
