Born on the 8th June 1885, the birth being
registered during the September quarter 1885 in
the East Ward R.D. - ref: 10b/670, the son of John
Coulthard & Margaret Davis (nee Robinson).

His father - John Coulthard Davis died in 1892,
aged, 43.

From an Eccles Salvation Army document entitled
"Memorable Dates" - 22nd and 23rd December 1940.

The two nights when this district received the
force of the Germans Air strength will long be
remembered.  Amongst the many people who lost
their lives were our following named comrades.

Robert Thompson, Bandsman.   Mrs Thompson, wife of
the above {Annie].  Kenneth, Allan and John, the
three sons of our comrades.

Major Wm Allen, the Commanding Officer, who apart
from the shelter visitation is attached to the
town's war mortuary & recognised the bodies of his
own people as they were brought in with other
victims of the air raid.  Moving sights were
witnessed at the funeral service in the citadel
also at the graveside in Peel Green Cemetery,
conducted by Major Allen, assisted by Mrs Major
Allen.

Brother Frank Davies & Sister Mrs Clara Davies,
his wife, lost their lives on the second night of
the Blitz, when Weaste district suffered very
heavily.    [Frank & Clara Dorothy Davis].

We were unable to bury our comrades until
Saturday, January 4 when the Weaste cemetery
re-opened.    Mrs Hunter, [Mary Ann Hunter] mother
of Mrs C Davies also lost her life through this
raid and was buried with our comrades.  They all
enjoyed a very bright Christian experience.

CWGC - of 17 Robinson's Buildings, Eccles New
Road. Son of the late John Coulthard Davis, and
Margaret Davis, of Appleby, Westmorland; husband
of Clara Dorothy Davis. Died at 17 Robinson's
Buildings.

Florence Beard was killed at No.22.  The dwellings
were recorded as 2,4,6,8 up to 22 on the evens
side and 5,7,9 up to 17 on the odds side.  Nos. 17
and 22 were opposite each other at the end of the
road.
