Fire Engine RTA, junction of Halliwell Road and
Blackburn Road, en-route to an incident.   He fell
off on the corner and was hit by the second fire
engine and died at the scene.

CWGC - Fireman, N.F.S. Son of Mrs. M. E. Bradburn,
of 30 Acton Street; husband of Emily Bradburn, of
8 Acton Street. Died at Halliwell Road.

Manchester Evening News dated 31st January 1944 -
Police are searching for the person who made a
false alarm about a fire at the Falcon Cotton
Mill, Halliwell.  Two appliances were sent from
the Marsden Road Fire Station - William was riding
the first appliance.  As the machine turned into
Halliwell Road, William was thrown off the
appliance into the roadway.   The second appliance
travelling fast behind in the black-out and struck
William fracturing his skull, killing him
instantly.   When they reached the Mill there was
no fire found and no-one had any knowledge of the
call that was made from a telephone box.   
William was killed by a hoaxer.

His widow - Emily Bradburn - married James Webber
in 1946.
