Manchester.    Joseph Bernstein - Married - born
on the 23rd May 1886 - occ: Cabinet Maker.   Betsy
Bernstein - Married - born on the 25th September
1885 - occ: Unpaid Domestic Duties.   Soloman
Bernstein - Single - born on the 14th June 1913 -
occ: Clerk Weekly Payments.  There is one redacted
record which is probably Maurice.  Cecil Bernstein
- born on the 3rd August 1926 - At School.

Serving with 907 Balloon Squadron, part of No. 3
Balloon Centre, Stanmore.  The Squadron controlled
45 Balloons.   Maurice was one of seventeen 907
Sqn killed in their billet at 26 Highbury Grove,
Aberdeen Lane, Islington, London.  The casualties
were identified by the unit's medical officer who
had traveled from the Squadron's base at Woodbury
Down.  Some of the bodies could only be identified
by their uniforms and equipment, etc.

CWGC - Son of Joseph & Betsy Bernstein of Higher
Crumpsall, Manchester.

MI - "Killed 11th Marcheshvan 5701.  Deeply
mourned by his father, mother and brothers".

in the Islington R.D. - ref: 1b/520.

From "Islington Remembers" - Tuesday 12th November
1940. Enemy raids were on a reduced scale during
the day but, from 23.00 hours, these intensified -
London being the main target once again. Sloane
Square underground station booking office and a
train was hit with the loss of 21 lives. A total
of 111 Londoners were killed this day, 13 were
killed elsewhere. A number of properties were
damaged in Islington. Elfort Road, Highbury Hill,
Hornsey Rise Gardens, Petherton Road, St. Paul's
Road and Aberdeen Lane were hit with the loss of
25 lives. This total included 18 men of the 907
Balloon Squadron who were killed in their billet
at 26 Highbury Grove, Aberdeen Lane.   [Other
records state  that 17 were killed].
