Report in the 23rd October 1940 edition of the
Rochdale Observer states that Doris and Oliver
were cremated on the 22nd.
Another report in the same paper dated 26th
October informs that her father and mother-in-law
had a lucky escape in this incident. At the time
of the raid they were sleeping in the first floor
bedroom, Doris and Oliver were sleeping downstairs
in the dining room that was considered to be
safer. The H.E. bomb hit the house next door,
demolishing it, killing both Oliver & Doris.
Oliver's father was a well known electrical
contractor based in Yorkshire Street, Rochdale,
but had moved to London eight weeks previously, he
and his wife were both injured in the raid and
both ended up in hospital.
