The planes are believed to have been twin-engined
Heinkel bombers, which came under local fire from
mobile anti-aircraft battery at the junction of
Kingsway and Broadway. A 1,000 pound landmine was
released on a target thought to be a factory
manufacturing aircraft wings, however the bomb
missed the factory altogether, landing directly on
a house in Bulkeley Road, Cheadle

Part of the Manchester Christmas 1940 Blitz, a
landmine landed onto 49 Bulkeley Road, Cheadle.  
17 year old Ronald Frederick Harrison was in the
passageway between Nos. 47 & 49 and the two
buildings collapsed on top of him.  Rescuers
managed to free him, but he died the next day at
Stockport Infirmary.    Next door at No. 51, Miss
Nora Jackson was just collecting her pet bird
before going to the public air raid shelter, she
was killed instantly.    Accross the road at No.
20, Maria Brooks was hit in the stomach by a piano
stool and died the same day at the day at
Stockport Infirmary.  Her husband - Rueben was
only slightly injured.
