Liverpool Daily Post dated the 16th May 1944 -
"Inquest held yesterday at Leigh, returned a
verdict of misadventure in the case of Column
Officer peter Bradshaw, aged: 40 of Maryland
Avenue, Bolton. The NFS were summoned to a fire
and the Appliance was going at a fast speed down
Market Street towards the junction of four roads
when the lights were at red. A Corporation
double decker bus was trying to cross the street
as the lights were i n its favour. Peter was so
severely injured that he died the following day at
the Leigh Infirmary. One witness stated that the
fire engine was travelling at about 40 m.p.h.
although the lights were at red.
