Born on the 10th October 1937, the birth being
registered during the December quarter 1937 in the
Barton upon Irwell R.D. - ref: 8c/634, the son of
John & Nellie Brown (nee Wallwork).

school age.

CWGC - of 15 Gladstone Street, Pendlebury. Son of
John and Nellie Brown. Died at 15 Gladstone
Street.

Jack's parents and baby brother were also killed
in this incident.

In 2005, Harry Sharples who used to reside at
88-90 Bridge Street, Pendlebury contributed an
article to the WW2 People's War Archive.   Much of
it is about his time served in the Royal Navy, but
included are his memories of the bombing of
Swinton & Pendlebury.   Although he doesn't name
the Brown family, they are the only family killed
at Gladstone Street.

Harry's story:- "In Gladstone Street, where my
sister had a little shop, a man came in that night
for some cigarettes just before the air raid
started. He said he was going back under the
stairs with his kids. When I got up and went to
investigate, they were all buried and the firemen
tried to put the fire out. I could hear them
underneath. The next morning, when they took them
out they were all burnt."
