regisitered during the September quarter 1912 in
the Burnley R.D. - ref: 8e/318, the son of Henry &
Margaret Alice Berry (nee Kenyon).
Herbert married Marjorie Tattersall during the
September quarter 1939 in the Burnley R.D. - ref:
8e/607. They resided at 14 Milner Street, Old
Trafford.

Housewife.
One of six Police Officers killed when a Land Mine
fell onto the East Union Street Police Station,
Old Trafford on the first night of the Manchester
Christmas Blitz. Four officers were killed
instantly - two died a few days later.
CWD Report No.62. Died as a result of blast, at
the East Union Street Police Station, from where
his body was recovered at 09.00 hrs on the 23rd
December 1940 and taken to the City Road Mortuary,
Old Trafford. It was identified by his elder
brother - Edward Berry, 3 Marles Street, Burnley
and released for burial to Tattersall Undertakers,
3 Raburn Street, Burnley. Edwards stated that
there wasn't a scratch on Herbert's motorcycle,
which he'd parked outside a few minutes before the
explosion.
Death registered in Stretford Borough. Buried at
Burnley on 27/12/1940. Commemorated on the
Stretford Police Memorial.

until her death in 1985.
