Originally enlisted into the Lancashire Fusiliers,
serving for just 96 days until it was discovered
that he had lied about his age, undeterred, he
re-enlisted once he was of age.
WO363 - Attested into the 7th Battalion,
Lancashire Fusiliers at Salford on the 25th
November 1915. He was residing at 6 Dun Street,
Salford and was aged: 18 years, 1 month. His
occupation: Riddle Maker and had previsouly served
for 96 days in the 8th Battalion, Lancashire
Fusiliers. He was 5 feet 3 1/2 inches in height,
had a chest expansion of 3 inch to 34 inches.
His hair: Auburn, eyes: Blue, and had a Fresh
complexion.
Mobilized on the 10th May 1916 - Service No. 4723.
Served at Home (UK) from the 10th May 1916 until
the 25th November 1917, during which time he was
transferred to the 41st (Hereford) Monmouth
Regiment on the 29th December 1916. Posted to
France on the 26th November 1917, returning to
England on the 10th June 1919 when he was
demobbed.
Married Ivy Reid at St. Phillip's P.C., Salford on
the 7th July 1923.
