Not strictly a "Blitz" death, but a casualty of
the war at home just the same.   Hugh had stolen a
WW1 German automatic pistol gun from the "War
Weapons Week" Savings Campaign display at the
Brotherhood Hall and hidden it in the family shed
at home.   On the day he was fatally wounded, two
of his friends had gone round to his house to look
at the gun.  Hugh had also stolen a wW1 bullet
from elsewhere and had placed it into the breach
of the gun.  He put the gun into his coat pocket. 
On removing the gun from his pocket, he released
the safety catch and the trigger also caught on
his pocket and activated, the round hitting him in
the chest.  The Coroner returned a verdict of
accidental death from a gunshot wound.
