Duties.

A member of No.1 Detachment, County of Lancaster
Battailion, Home Guard.   According to one of his
Roll of Honour entries from the No.1 Detachment,
both he and Charles White were killed whilst on
duty at the C.W.S. Biscuit Works, Crumpsall,
Manchester.   However, according to the CWGC,
Charles White was killed at 252 Oldham Road, New
Cross, Manchester, NOT the Biscuit Works.  I have
another reference that he was killed at the
Beehive Hotel, 252 Oldham Road, Ancoats.  I can
only assume that the "Roll of Honour" recorded
that they were both killed "that night", rather
than at the same place???

See "Roll of Honour" in the M.E.N. dated 16th
December 1940 and the 15th December 1945.   He
must have been killed duing the early hours of the
16th for it to be reported in the M.E.N. of that
date.
