Flying a Hampden Bomber - No. AT231 with a
Pegasus MkXVIII engine, on a ferry flight from
Preston, Lancashire to Thorney Island, West
Sussex, the a/c caught fire and crashed at 15.25
hrs during approach at Weston-under-Lizard,
Staffordshire. He had flown - 675 hours day-time
and 50 hours night-time flying.
Another source states that he crash landed on Lord
Bradford's Estate, Weston under Lizard,
Staffordshire, east of Telford, Shropshire after
the Port engine caught fire.
The AM118 crash record card states that he was
with No. 14 FPP, but also records that his Drome
was Weston Park Airfield, Staffordshire and had
835 hours flying time to his name.
